Albania

Budget travel to amazing places

A hidden Gem in the Balkans

We visited Albania in May of 2024 and then again in March of 2025. It is one of our favorite european countries, especially for it’s distinct culture and beautiful nature, as well as its low prices from a german perspective. Thus far we have not visited the south and its beaches, as we did not visit during the summer season. If you have any questions about my guide or if you want me to check your itinerary feel free to contact me.

During our first trip to the country, I hiked through the northern Teth and Valbona National Park, basing myself in Teth and Valbona, each for a couple of days to enjoy the local hikes and soak in the vibe of these fantastic hidden villages. Probably the most famous hike you can do here is the one connecting both villages over the Valbona Pass. Especially Valbona was as dreamy as it gets, given that it is located in the middle of nature at the end of the valley right in front of towering rugged mountain peaks. Although getting there is hard, I would rate this one of the top spots in Europe in terms of nature.

Our second visit came about through a multi-day layover in Tirana, during which we explored the city in detail and spent 1 night in Gijrokastra. This trip showed us more about the people, their daily lives, their culture and their cuisine. We love the modern, yet oriental vibe, Tirana has to offer and the open and friendly people we met there. We felt very safe and would love to visit again in the future.
